Best changelog tools for indie SaaS in 2026

No single tool wins this. For a changelog alone, start with Headway's free plan. For email on a small budget, look at Noticeable. For AI drafts, ReleaseNotes. For reach at scale, Beamer. For feedback and a changelog in one plan, ShipLog.

Prices checked on on each vendor's site, in USD. We build ShipLog, so weigh that. Spot something stale? Tell us and we'll fix it.

Who should pick which

ShipLog

Pick it if: You want feedback and updates in one place: a voting board, a public changelog and a widget, for one flat price with no user count.

Look elsewhere if: You only need a changelog and more than 10 free entries, or you need email announcements, push, a custom domain or scheduled posts. Readers follow ShipLog's changelog by RSS.

shiplog.ca

Noticeable

Pick it if: You want email announcements on a small budget. Starter adds email sending, a custom domain and analytics, with unlimited visitors on paid plans.

Look elsewhere if: A second person needs to post, since Starter has no collaborators, or you need the API, which starts on Growth.

noticeable.io

Headway

Pick it if: You only need a changelog page and a widget. Headway's free plan may be all you need, and it beats ShipLog's free 10 entries on changelog volume.

Look elsewhere if: You also want to collect feedback, or you need a documented API. Whitelabel, a custom domain, teams and scheduled publishing all need Pro.

ReleaseNotes

Pick it if: You want AI to draft release notes from shipped work. Teams adds unlimited releases, in-app widgets and integrations with GitHub and Jira.

Look elsewhere if: You need a widget or a full history on the free plan, or email at no extra cost. On Teams, email subscribers cost $10 more per 1,000.

Beamer

Pick it if: Announcements are the job and your audience is large. Beamer has boosted posts, segmentation, and email and push from Pro. ShipLog is not an announcement suite.

Look elsewhere if: You are a small team watching costs. The bill grows with users, at $50/mo per extra 5,000, and paid Feedback is charged on top.

Also worth a look

AnnounceKit (announcekit.app) prices each product separately. Changelog is $49/mo billed yearly and Feature Requests & Roadmap adds $39/mo, with 10,000 monthly active users and an MCP server included. It lists a 15-day trial and no free plan, so we left it out of the table for indie budgets.

Board-first tools sit next to this category, and most of them have a changelog too. If votes matter more than announcements, read Nolt, Frill, Canny, Sleekplan, Upvoty and Featurebase, or the full comparison.

Getting started

Frequently asked questions

Which free changelog tool should a small SaaS start with?
For a changelog alone, look at Headway's free plan, which lists unlimited changelogs, or Beamer's, which lists unlimited posts for up to 1,000 monthly active users with a watermark. ShipLog's free plan is one project, 10 feedback items and 10 changelog entries (including drafts), so it is the smaller of the two on changelog volume. It does add a feedback board.
Which changelog tool costs the least once you pay?
On November 6, 2026 the entry paid prices were ShipLog at $9/mo, Noticeable at $24/mo billed yearly, Headway at $29/mo, ReleaseNotes at $39/mo per project and Beamer at $49/mo billed yearly. These plans do different jobs: ShipLog sends no email announcements, for example, and Noticeable's Starter does.
Which changelog tools include a feedback board?
ShipLog includes one on every plan. Beamer sells Feedback as a separate product with a free tier, and AnnounceKit sells it as a separate product too. The Headway, Noticeable and ReleaseNotes pages we read list no feedback board.
Which changelog tools work with AI agents?
ShipLog has an MCP server on every plan, free included. ReleaseNotes lists MCP from its $39/mo Teams plan, and AnnounceKit lists it on its paid products. Headway, Beamer and Noticeable did not mention MCP on the pages we read on November 6, 2026.
How do I move a changelog to ShipLog?
There's no one-click importer yet. Create a free project, connect its MCP server and have your AI agent add each post you want to keep with the create_changelog_entry tool, or paste them into the editor. Remember that the free plan holds 10 entries. Email hello@shiplog.ca and we'll help you move.

Want feedback and a changelog in one place?

ShipLog's free plan is one project, 10 feedback items and 10 changelog entries, with no credit card. Captain is $9/mo or $90/yr per project.
